Welcome to the homepage of Laubach-Kolleg, the senior high school of the Protestant Church of Hesse and Nassau, Germany (EKHN)!

In the current school year, a total of 280 students is attending Laubach-Kolleg. The three-year programme consists of an introductory year and two years of earning credits towards the Abitur. Adults who have completed their vocational training and who would have to take evening classes for this purpose are integrated into the regular classes and courses. Young students/refugees from the age of 17 are enabled to attend classes that lead to the middle school exams (Realschulabschluss). There is the option of staying on-campus in the school's hostel for students over the age of 18, so that students who do not originally come from the region are enabled to benefit from the educational offers at Laubach-Kolleg.

Laubach-Kolleg is a state approved senior high school and is subsidised by the pecuniary resources of EKHN. The monthly tuition fee per student (40, 50 or 60€) can be freely selected

The guiding principle of our everyday work at Laubach-Kolleg is: “Learning, Understanding – Shaping Life” It is meant to foster personal growth and provide an atmosphere of working and studying together in a Christian spirit of encouragement and approval.

There are three central ideas of promoting education at Laubach-Kolleg:

  1. competences in the use of new media/digital school/working with I-Pads
  2. learning in individual pace/compensation of learning deficits/classes with focus on special interests
  3. international Abitur in Hesse/bilingual education

Religious education is a mandatory subject at Laubach-Kolleg. In the introductory year, students are taught almost all subjects in a fixed group setting. The main focus of the first term of the introductory year is to get all students on the same level as far as knowledge, competence and skills for a successful Abitur are concerned.

Through six afternoons of classes and a two-week internship focussing on the areas of social responsibility, ecology, languages and culture, all scheduled during the introductory year, students are encouraged to discover their own main academic interests. Furthermore, these events enable students to experience the practical application of knowledge at universities and other institutions.
Students learn to be responsible for their own learning by keeping track of their progress and receiving and giving feedback.(Demo-Video)

Classes in the introductory year are daily from 07.50 to 13.00 and from 13.45 to 15.15 three times a week.

Furthermore, there is a shuttle service taking students living in the region but not having the option of regular public transportation easily available to them to school and back by bus. The route is customized yearly depending on where students live.

There are beginners' courses in Spanish and Latin for students who haven't taken a second foreign language before.
There is a wide variety of courses on offer at Laubach-Kolleg. These include all natural sciences, maths, German, modern languages (English, French, Spanish), classical languages (Latin, Greek, Hebrew), art, music and religious education. Almost all of these subjects can be taken as main subjects, too. Physical education can be taken as a main subject or as a basic course with one extra weekly lesson if it is to be part of the Abitur.

The offered subjects for the classes of middle school for adults (Realschule für Erwachsene, RSfE) are amended by German as a second language classes and by additional subjects/study groups which can be chosen depending on interest (soccer, volleyball, intercultural cuisine, exploring the region, dancing, caring for sheep, biodiversity, arts, interreligious meetings, parlour game afternoons). These study groups are attended by middle school and senior high school students. Furthermore, the entire school is involved in projects on the premises or educational study trips during the week before summer break. Regular events like devotions, services, theatre productions and concerts strengthen a sense of community. Teacher-student communication is encouraged at regular full meetings.
